Friday, November 14 

8th grade U.S. history:

Standards of the day- 8.4.1. Describe the country's physical landscapes, political divisions, and territorial expansion during the terms of the first four presidents.

11/14 Our learning goals today are to know: The Marbury v. Madison case established the power of judicial review. In 1803 the U.S. purchased the Louisiana Territory, 800,000 sq. miles of land for $15 million, from France.

 

While I take roll, you will write today's learning goal in your learning log.

 

The Ch. 5 Active Reading Workbook pgs and Binder papers are 1 day late.

 

Today we will learn about the Marbury vs. Madison case and also about the Louisiana Purchase. We will read pgs. 309 - 314 in our textbook.

 

Then you will work towards pg. 99 of your Active Reading Workbook.

 

7th grade social studies:

Standard of the day-7.3.4 Understand the importance of both overland trade and maritime expeditions between China and other civilizations in the Mongol Ascendancy and Ming Dynasty. 7.8.3 Understand the effects of the reopening of the ancient "Silk Road" between Europe and China, including Marco Polo's travels and the location of his routes.

11/14 Our learning goal today is to know: Marco Polo's travels in the Mongol Empire & his book created interest in travel and trade between Europe and Asia.

The In My Time project is 2 days late.

 

Today we will learn about Marco Polo in the Mongol Empire. We will begin by reading pg. 273 in our textbook.

 

We will also use this PowerPoint to help us: Marco Polo and the Yuan Dynasty

 

Next you will answer questions on pgs. 50 - 63 in your Active Reading Workbook and begin work on a new binder paper.

Then you will work on your Mongols assignment. It is due on Tuesday at the end of the period.

Thursday, November 13

8th grade U.S. history:

Standards of the day- 8.4.1. Describe the country's physical landscapes, political divisions, and territorial expansion during the terms of the first four presidents.

11/13 Our learning goals today are to know: After fierce campaigning, there was a peaceful transfer of power to new Pres. Jefferson. He limited the scope of the federal govt. 

 

While I take roll, you will write today's learning goal in your new learning log.

 

The Ch. 5 Active Reading Workbook pages and Binder papers are both due today.

We will begin today by discussing the Ch. 5 Mini-test results.

Today we will learn how President Jefferson scales back the power of the federal government.   We will read pages 307 – 308.  We will also talk about the building of the White House and view a short video clip on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf6r8Zcj7Sc

Next you will work on Active Reading Workbook pages 94 – 96.

7th grade social studies:

Standard of the day-7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages.

11/13 Our learning goal today is to know: Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, started the Yuan dynasty which ruled China for the next 100 years. While ruling China, the Mongols kept their own language, laws, and customs and thus stayed separate from the Chinese people.

 

The In My Time project is 1 day late.

 

While I take roll, you will write down today’s learning log entry.

  

Today we will learn more about Mongol rule in China. We will read page p. 272 in our textbook. We will also discuss this PowerPoint: Yuan Dynasty

 

Then you and your partner will work on a Mongols assignment. It is due on Tuesday.

Wednesday, November 12 Minimum Day Schedule

 

8th grade U.S. history:
Standards of the day - 8.3.4 Understand how the conflicts between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton resulted in the emergence of two political parties.

11/12 Our learning goal today is to know: France attacked U.S. ships & asked for a bribe in the XYZ Affair, but Pres. Adams ultimately made peace. 

 

Write down today's learning goal in your new learning log

 

Today we will do a quick review of chapter 5.  

 

Then we will take the Ch. 5 mini-test.

 

If time allows you will turn in your binder papers and your Active Reading Workbook pgs. 78 – 92. Both are due tomorrow.

11/12 Our learning goal today is to know: The Mongols created the world's largest land empire stretching from the Pacific Ocean to Eastern Europe and Siberia to the Himalayas.

 

While I take roll, you will write today's learning goal in your learning log.

 

We will begin by discussing Monday’s quiz. 

 

Next we will learn more about the Mongols who conquered China in the middle ages. We will start by reading pages 270 & 272.

 

Then you will finish and turn in the In My Time project. It is due today.

 

Next you will work on the Ch. 4 pages of your Active Reading Workbook.

 

If time allows, we will also work on a new binder paper.

Next you will finish work on your “In My Time” project. It is due on Wednesday. 

 
Then we will take a quiz on the first 8 learning log entries.
