8th grade U.S. history:

Standard of the day 8.12.1 Trace patterns of agricultural and industrial development as they relate to climate, use of natural resources, markets, and trade and locate such development on a map.

5/22 Our learning goal today is to know: Cattle ranching was difficult, dangerous, & low pay work mostly done by minorities. The Homestead Act gave 160 acres of free Great Plains land to farmers.

The Reconstruction Project is 2 days late.

Today we will learn about cowboys and farmers by discussing pgs. 673 - 679 in our textbook.

We will use this Powerpoint to help us.

Next you will answer pgs. 278 - 287 in the Active Reading Workbook.

Standard of the day: 7.11.3 Examine the origins of modern capitalism; the influence of mercantilism and cottage industry; the elements and importance of a market economy in seventeenth-century Europe; the changing international trading and marketing patterns...

5/22 Our learning goal today is to know: A joint-stock company is a business that people can invest in by buying a share of the company. A cottage industry is where products are created in homes rather than shops.

While I take roll, write today's learning goal in your learning log.

Next we will review how joint-stock companies work by watching this video clip:  Joint Stock Companies 2:52.

Then we will read about how cottage industry gives rise to capitalism. We will read pages 498 - 499.

Next you will work on pgs.162 -171 of the Active Reading Workbook.

Then you will work on the Explorer Interviews project. It is due on Tuesday.  

We will take the Ch. 10 Mini-Test on Wednesday. Start studying your learning log entries a little each night in order to be well prepared. You can also play Age of Exploration- rags to riches.

5/21 Our learning goal today is to know: In the late 1850s people headed west in search of gold & silver. This led to boomtowns, new states, & a Transcontinental Railroad.

The Reconstruction Museum Exhibit project is 1 day late.

Then we will begin our new chapter on the Western Frontier by discussing pgs. 667 -671 in our textbook.

Next you will also answer pgs. 278 - 282 in the Active Reading Workbook.

5/20 Our learning goal today is to know: The aftermath of segregation reached long into the future and even into Lemon Grove.

 

There is no new learning log entry for today.

The Chapter 14 Binder papers and Active Reading Workbook pgs are 3 days late.

Today we will learn more about "The Lemon Grove Incident" by finishing the video and discussing what we saw. 

Next you and your partner will work on the Reconstruction Museum Exhibit project.  It is due today.

5/20 Our learning goal today is to know: Spain's Empire was used to mine gold & silver, Portugal's Empire was used for growing sugarcane. England began to build its empire after the defeat of the Spanish Armada.

Today we will learn about Europe's Empires. We will begin by reading pages 494 - 495.

5/19 Our learning goal today is to know: Our country is named after an Italian explorer who sailed for Spain and Portugal, Amerigo Vespucci, - one of the first explorers to realize we were not Asia.

We will will finish reading about the other explorers on pgs. 491 - 493.

Then we will learn about Amerigo Vespucci.

Next you will work on our new project, My Explorer Interviews.  It is due next Tuesday.
