Friday, May 15 Testing today periods 1 and 2

7th grade social studies

Standard of the day-7.7.3 Explain how and where each empire arose and how the Aztec and Incan empires were defeated by the Spanish.

5/15 Our learning goal today is to know: Between 1492 and 1502 Christopher Columbus made 4 voyages from Spain to the western hemisphere, claiming all the land he found for Spain. 

While I take roll, write today's learning goal in your learning log.

The Ch. 9 Binder papers and Active Reading Workbook pgs are 3 days late.

We will begin today by watching this video clip on Portuguese Explorers 5:27

Then we will learn about Christopher Columbus sailing for the Spanish King and Queen. We will begin by reading page 471 - 472 in our textbook.

Then we will read and discuss this PowerPoint: Columbus and his voyages or we will watch this video clip: The Real Story of Columbus 4:17

Next you will work on the Caravel worksheet and the Active Reading Workbook pgs. for chapter 10.

Thursday, May 14 Testing today periods 1 and 2

8th grade U.S. history:

Standard of the day 8.11.3 Understand the effects of the Freedmen's Bureau and the restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws.

Our learning goal today is to show mastery of the standards under 8.11.

The is no new learning log entry for today.

We will begin class by using the first 5 minutes to review for today’s test.

 

Then you will take the chapter 14 mini-test.

 

Next you will turn in the chapter 14 Active Reading Workbook and binder papers. Both are due today.

 

Afterwards you and your partner will work on the Reconstruction Museum Exhibit project.  It is due on Tuesday.

Wednesday, May 13 Minimum Day Schedule

8th grade U.S. history:

Standard of the day 8.11.3 Understand the effects of the Freedmen's Bureau and the restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws.

5/13 Our learning goal today is to know: Violence & prejudice against African Americans increased in the South. Reconstruction rebuilt the South but did not provide equality.

While I take roll, write today's learning goal in your new learning log.

 

Today we will finish reading the chapter on pgs. 648 – 649.

 

Then you will make sure you are all done with the chapter 14 Active Reading Workbook and binder papers. Both are due tomorrow.

 

Then you will review for tomorrow’s Ch.14 mini-test.  You can:

Tuesday, May 11 Testing today periods 1 and 2

7th grade social studies

Standard of the day: 7.11.1 Know the great voyages of discovery, the locations of the routes, and the influence of cartography in the development of a new European world view.

5/12 Our learning goal today is to know: The age of exploration began in the 1400s because goods from overland Asia became more expensive when both the Mongol & Byzantine Empires fell.

 

While I take roll, write today's learning goal in your new learning log.

 

The Ch. 9 Binder papers and Active Reading Workbook pgs are 1 day late.

 

We will start class today by going over Friday’s test questions.

 

Then we will begin our new topic on the Age of Exploration by watching a videoThe Age of Exploration Begins 12:47.

 

Next we will read pages 487 - 488 in our textbook.

 

Then you will label the Age of Exploration map.

Monday, May 11  Testing today periods 1 and 2

8th grade U.S. history:

Standard of the day 8.11.3 Understand the effects of the Freedmen's Bureau and the restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws.

5/11 Our learning goal today is to know: Poll taxes & literacy tests stopped many from voting. "Grandfather clauses" allowed "white" exceptions. Jim Crow laws segregated blacks & whites. In Plessy v. Ferguson the Supreme Ct. ruled that separate but equal facilities were legal.

Today we will learn about the post-Reconstruction South becoming a divided society. We will read 647 - 648.

 

Then you will finish answering the Ch.14 pages of your Active Reading Workbook.  You will also make sure that you have completed all of the binder papers.  Both are due on Thursday.
