We will begin class today with time for our final groups to rehearse.  Then we will see our final presentations.

6/4 Our learning goal today is to know:  More Americans go to public schools. Newspapers & magazines become popular as does ragtime music & vaudeville theater. Movies are invented.

7th grade social studies

Standards of the day: 7.10.3 Understand the scientific method advanced by Bacon and Descartes, the influence of new scientific rationalism on the growth of democratic ideas, and the coexistence of science with traditional religious beliefs.

6/4 Our learning goal today is to know: Descartes invented “rationalism” - the belief that reason is the chief source of knowledge.  This led to Bacon’s “scientific method.”

Today we will begin by watching a short video clip on the scientific revolution 3:00.

Then we will learn about the use of reason in science.  We will read pgs. 522 - 523 in our textbook.

Next you will work on your famous scientists one pager.

You can also answer pgs. 177 - 183 in your Active Reading Workbook.

You will also study your learning log entries for Monday’s quiz.

Standard of the day 8.12.7 Identify the new sources of large scale immigration and reactions of mainstream society

6/3 Our learning goal today is to know: 1.3 mil. immigrants arrived from eastern & southern Europe & settled into industrial cities. Nativists groups opposed this.

6/3 Our learning goal today is to know: Newton created the laws of motion and gravity.  Vesalius & Harvey gave accurate information on the body and blood.

Today we will begin by watching a short video clip on Galileo’s telescope 3:45. Galileo and the speed of falling objects 2:06

Then we will learn about other discoveries in physics, medicine, and chemistry. We will read pgs. 519 - 520 in our textbook.

Next you will begin work on a famous scientist one pager assignment.

Standards of the day 8.12.Understand that the population became more urban at the turn of the century.

6/2 Our learning goal today is to: Cities grew crowded causing the spread of crime & disease. Skyscrapers were invented. Streetcars, trolleys, & bridges were built.

6/2 Our learning goal today is to know: Copernicus developed a heliocentric theory of the universe. Kepler added that the planets moved on oval paths.  Galileo’s telescope proved both right.

Then you will finish work on the chapter 11 map activity.

6/1 Our learning goal today is to: Businesses like oil & steel grew big with horizontal integration (combining 2 or more firms producing the same thing) & vertical (firms involved in different steps of manufacturing).
