Friday, May 1

8th grade U.S. history:

Standards of the day 8.11.3 Understand the effects of the Freedmen's Bureau and the restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws.8.11.5 Understand the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution and analyze their connection to Reconstruction.

5/1 Our learning goal today is to know: Southern "Black Codes" restricted rights of African Americans. Congress passed a bill to stop this which the Pres. vetoed & Congress overrode. Congress passed the 14th Amendment & began the Reconstruction Act.

The chapter 13 binder papers & Active Reading Workbook are 2 days late.  

We will start by talking about the Freemen’s Bureau then we will learn more about Reconstruction. We will read pgs. 630 – 631.

Then you will continue to work on yesterday’s 4-square notes about the Reconstruction plans.

 

Next you will work on the new Andrew Johnson worksheet and the Chapter 14 Active Reading Workbook pages. 

 

7th grade social studies

Standard of the day-7.7.1 Study the locations, landforms, and climates of Mexico, Central America, and South America and their effects on Mayan, Aztec, and Inca economies, trade, and development of urban societies. 7.7.2 Study the roles of people in each society, including class structures, family life, warfare, religious beliefs and practices, and slavery.

5/1 Our learning goal today is to know: The Incas created a network of roads and rope bridges to connect their empire. Long distance runners delivered information.

The Maya Life Magazine is 1 day late.

Today we will continue to learn more about the Incas. We will begin by taking 4 -square notes on this PowerPoint: Inca Roads

Then we will watch & take notes on this Grass Bridge video clip.

Next you will finish your four-square notes with Inca Mailmen and Terrace Farming. You will place these in your binder.

Then you will work on your Aztec Warrior Poem assignment.  It is due on Tuesday.

You will also make sure that your Active Reading Workbook is completed from pgs. 146 – 155.

Thursday, April 30

8th grade U.S. history:

Standards of the day 8.11.1 List the original aims of Reconstruction and describe its effects on the political and social structures of different regions. 8.11.3 Understand the effects of the Freedmen's Bureau and the restrictions placed on the rights and opportunities of freedmen, including racial segregation and "Jim Crow" laws.

4/30  Our learning goal today is to know: 4 Reconstruction Plans to rebuild the U.S.:  1. Lincoln's, 2. Wade-Davis, 3. Restoration Plan & 4.

Reconstruction Act. The Freedmen's Bureau helped ex-slaves.

The Ch. 13 binder papers & Active Reading Wkbk pages are 1 day late.

We will start today by going over the answers to the Chapter 13 test.

Then we will begin chapter 14 on Reconstruction. We will read pgs. 625 - 628.

Next you will make a chart with information about the 4 Reconstruction plans. This will be your first Ch. 14 binder papers

You will also start work on the Ch. 14 Active Reading Workbook pages 

 We will finish the period with recitations.

4/30 Our learning goal today is to know: The Inca Empire began in South America in the 1300s.  Under King Pachacuti it grew 2,500 miles down the length of the Andes Mts.

Today we will begin reading pg. 462 and 463 in our textbook.

Next we will watch a video clip on Machu Picchu. (The Incan City of Machu Picchu 6.53 mins)

Afterwards you turn in your Maya Magazine. It is due today.

Then you will work on the Aztec Warrior Poem assignment.  It is due on Tuesday.

You will also make sure that your Active Reading Workbook is completed from pgs. 146 - 155.

4/29 Our learning goal today is to know: The life of an Aztec warrior was one of constant battle. The primary purpose for this was to take prisoners to be sacrificed to their gods.

Then we will watch this short video clip on Aztec Warriors.

4/28 Our learning goal today is to know: Both the Confed. & Union sides suspended the right to a hearing for some war dissenters & had to use a draft to get enough soldiers.

4/27 Our learning goal today is to know: In the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan the king was at the top of the hierarchy with nobles, commoners, unskilled laborers, and enslaved people below.

Today we will learn about life in the Aztec Empire. We will begin by reading pages 461 - 462 in our textbook.
